A growing number of companies are implementing the PPDM™ data model to establish a master store for corporate data. The PPDM™ data model is rapidly becoming the de-facto standard in the E&P industry for creating corporate Master Data Stores.
The goal of a master data store is to maintain the most trusted data available to an organization whether from commercial, public, or proprietary sources. The PPDM™ data model supports the management of multiple sources of data in a robust and consistent structure.
The challenge for companies implementing the PPDM™ data model is how to load large volumes of data into the model in a reliable and efficient manner. To meet a large part of this challenge, EnergyIQ has developed an application that loads IHS data directly into the PPDM™ 3.8 data model.
The EIQ Data Loader performs a base load of the IHS data into the appropriate PPDM™ well and production modules and tools run to ensure that correct linkage is maintained between the modules. All of the associated reference tables are also loaded to ensure that referential integrity is maintained and that the load process can be performed with constraints in place.
The EIQ Data Loader accepts IHS transactional files on a nightly basis to update the data store and ensure that it contains the most current information available.
Robust exception handling routines generate error reports and create files of rejected records for re-processing. A built-in e-mail mechanism ensures that error reports are directed to the appropriate personnel or teams for review. Historical records of the load process are maintained within the database to provide a long-term view of performance.
EIQ Versioning Tool
The EIQ Data Loader includes the EIQ Versioning Tool that enables multiple records to be merged into a single record based upon attribute level preferences. Within the PPDM™ data model, a number of high-level tables such as Well and Field have an associated Version table that enables multiple records to be maintained for the same entity with a different source. The Versioning Tool aggregates these individual records from the Version table to the Master table based upon a preference list. This ensures that corrections and interpretations entered by company personnel are correctly maintained and are reliably promoted to the master record for application access.
